19.05.03> Thanks go out to everyone who made it down to aA on Saturday night. Again, a cracking time was had at our temporary new home THE KINGS ARMS. In the.obzerva's words, Saturday night was "a happening". Entertainment was provided by THE SOFT PRIEST on DJ duties, with LOOSE CANON, THE LAZILY SPUN, THE DIAMOND PISTOL REVUE, RIA BRIGHT & STEVE KENNEDY providing the live music. Mentions have to go out to PAUL FLIESHMAN for doing the sound & PETE SUNSHINE who has recently taken responsibility for bass playing duties in LOOSE CANON & has clearly made the role his own. 09.05.03 Cheers to Graham & the crew at Blowout for a cracking night at their shindig at the Irish Club in Chorlton last Friday. Two brillaint bands played (Soak & The Beans), whilst the crowd was as up for it as usual, dancing along to various DJs, including LEGO, the lads from ALFIE & the in house CONVENIENCE DJs. We also did a stint for a while, but unfortunately, the CD player was fucked, so the crowd was deprived of "Jet" by Wings & Sinatra's "Come fly with me". In their place, we gave the aA album a good airing, as well as any other vinyl that we could lay our hands on. The next Blowout is on 6th June, don't miss it.

07.04.03 Nice One to everyone for getting down to aA on Saturday. It may have been a quieter night than usual, but it was still a top occasion. All of the bands turned out & did their thing, whilst DJ SUNSHINE played a blinder on the decks. The live entertainment was provided by LOOSE CANON, THE EXPORTS, 13 AMP, PIERRE HALL, TRIP 69, HOLLY BURTON, & ELLIE (from Extinguish Her). Eternal gratitude, high fives & firm hand shakes go to Paul Flieshman from 3rdKind for doing his bit on the sound desk. We're back for more on SATURDAY 19TH APRIL, when we'll be welcoming THE SOFT PRIEST back to aA. Keep 'em peeled for the all new aA flyer.

31.03.03 The Hokum Clones, who featuring on the forthcoming aA album "Whores on the Doors" (songs in the key of aA), are touring during April & will call into Manchester on Sunday 13th, when they will be playing at Matt & Phreds on Oldham Street. Also on the bill are Aiden Smith (Twisted Nerve) & King Creosote (Fence Records). Also, May 2003 will see the release of the band's debut single through Rough Trade.

30.03.03 Utter Fucking Mayhem was happening at THE BLACK LION on Saturday night, as No.4 of "aA mark 2" swung into action. With THE SOFT PRIEST on decks & a line up that was second to none, the action came thick. As ever, we had a combination of old skool aA heads (LOOSE CANON, SILVA SURFA, AUTOKAT & THE ZANS) & a new breed that just had to be dug (THOMAS TRUEX, STEVE KENNEDY, DRIPFEED & TOXIC).

The crowd was loving every minute of it & all of the bands flogged a fair bit of merchandise, which is always nice to see. Once again, our humble gratitude goes out to the genius of sound that is Paul Flieshman from 3rdKind, without whom the whole thing would be so much more of a pain in the arse to get together, than it already is.

We're back for more on SATURDAY 5TH APRIL 2003, when the line up will include LOOSE CANON, THE EXPORTS, NICK AINSWORTH, 13 AMP, TRIP 69, HOLLY BURTON & MORE. Get down & get with it - upcoming aA's

26.03.03 Whores On The Doors (songs in the key of aA) is just a month away from being available nationally. For the time being, you can pick it up on CD or vinyl via the web site or by attending aA at THE BLACK LION. The album launch night will be taking place on SATURDAY 3RD MAY @ THE BLACK LION & will hopefully feature all of the bands who contributed tracks to the album, by either playing live or DJing at some point in the night. It's gonna be one fucked up party, so come on down & be part of the anarkhy.

25.03.03 aA is back at the Black Lion this Saturday night. The line up features a mixture of new & old faces, including LOOSE CANON, SILVA SURFA, AUTOKAT, THE ZANS (who will be playing an electric set with the original trio), STEVE KENNEDY, DRIPFEED, THOMAS TRUEX (a fellow brother from across the pond) & TOXIC.

Also featuring on Saturday night, will be the cult hero that is THE SOFT PRIEST, who will be DJing from the safe confindes of his MOBILE CONFESSIONAL - if you have any confessions, now is your chance to make them known. The night will be rocking from early on, so get down & get with it. Doors 8pm, first band 9pm, last entry 11pm, late bar, £3 on the door. upcoming aA's

22.03.03 THE EXPORTS have got a few local gigs coming up over the next couple of months. Forthcoming dates are : 20/03/03 - KORUMBA, Oxford Rd 26/03/03 - 42ND ST, Bootle St 03/04/03 - ZUMBAR, Oxford Rd 01/05/03 - NIGHT & DAY, Oldham St 22/05/03 - ROADHOUSE, Newton St

If you make it down to any of their gigs, try to pick up a copy of their promo CD featuring "Longtime servants of the Gun" & "Where do I go from Here?". Hopefully, we'll be seeing THE EXPORTS back at aA in the not too distant future.

15.03.03 Friend to aA, SILVA SURFA, will be getting his hands dirty once again, when he steps out at Night & Day, Oldham St, Manchester THIS THURSDAY NIGHT (20th March). The boy will be on stage at 9.15pm sharp, so get in early to witness his "full strings & efx set".

It's rumoured that the self recorded & much anticipated "Badlands" e.p. is "almost there" & should be on sale sooner than you think. SILVA SURFA will be back at aA @ The Black Lion on SATURDAY 29TH MARCH www.silvasurfa.co.uk

16.03.03 ROGER celebrate the release of their new single "Hand In Motion" with an appearance at the re-launch of IGNITION on Wednesday Night (19th March) @ 42nd Street, Manchester. Also on the bill are MONOMANIA & SOAK. We're not sure about the door tax, stage times & all that, but we suggest you get your arses down there early anyway, to give all of the bands your support.

14.03.03 A BIG THANKS to everyone for making it down to aKouStiK AnaRKhY @ The Black Lion on Saturday night. As ever, the entertainment was somewhere between madcap & genius, with brilliant sets from LOOSE CANON, NARCISSUS, STEVE FINN & HIS BAND, JOHN BARBER & STEVE PFCM. A special "THANK YOU" goes out to ALL IT'S WORTH & MILK 2 SUGARS, both of whom travelled from out of town & played as if they were playing in their own front room.

Once again, gratitude goes to Paul from 3rd Kind for working wonders with a PA that a) he'd never used before & b) had more than a couple of things wrong with it!!! We're back for more on SATURDAY 29TH MARCH.

Keep 'em peeled for the full line up, which will be announced shortly.

12.03.03 "Whores on the Doors"was reviewed for the first time yesterday (Tuesday). The review was on page 167 on Teletext on Channel $ & read thus :

NEW ALBUM : AKOUSTIK ANARKHY - Songs in the key of aA (sic) For three years, aA ran a club night in Manchester, a small coup Hokum Clones - Noel Gallagher faves - are here. While their "lets get drunk again" is stunningly accurate Robert Johnson, down to being as tinny as a 30's acetate, there's much else to recommend.

The Zans may start a Tenpole Tudore revival, whilst Loose Canon are just gorgeously catchy - raucous anarchy indeed. 4 out of 5 John Earles (11/03/03)

A short & sweet review, but it's nice to know that the crew in the Teletext offices are digging the album!

11.03.03 If Tim Westwood worked for aA he'd be saying "yo big dawgs, thiz saturday is da bomb! word! blowin' up the spot! All my peepz representing DK to the fullest! Go Black Lion cru go!"

However, he doesn't so all we're saying is Manchester's most seminal live music night continues onwards and upwards with another selection of truly great bands. Click here for more details...this Saturday 15th March - represent!

And if you're in the suburbs on Friday 14th check out another installment of the truly brilliant Blowout night with The Obsession kicking out the jams live and Joe Robinson (Chips Records & Twisted Nerve) on turntable duties - @ The Irish Centre, Chorlton, 8pm till late..

10.03.03 THE EXPORTS are playing live at Night & Day tonight (Monday), so try to make it down to lend your support. The band displayed a brilliant attitude in turning up at aA on Saturday night with less than 24 hours notice & knocking out a 20 minute set that took the heads off most people in the joint.

After Monday's gig, they're back for more at aA THIS SATURDAY (15th March), so you've got no excuses for not checking 'em out over the next week or so. Definitely worth keeping your eyes open for them.

09.03.03 AnaRKhY was definitely going down on Saturday night, with the second coming of at the Black Lion. The night was another storming success with Loose Canon, The Zans, The Exports, Extinguish Her, Stephen PFCM & The Paul Walker Trio demonstrating their heroic duty to live music.

If we missed anyone off the list, well what can we say??? Unfortunately, Lunar Camels were unable to do their bit, but hopefully they'll be back for a stint in the not too distant future. They're good guys & get our full support. Again, eternal respect & gratitude goes out to Paul from 3rd Kind who did a brilliant job on the sound desk & thanks go out to The Soft Priest, who was on DJing duties from the safe confindes of his self assembled Mobile Confessional.

We're back for more this Saturday (15th March), so try to get your arses down for more of the same.

03.03.03 A limited number of LOOSE CANON's 7" single "Out to lunch" are available via the aA shop. The single, backed with a demo version of "This American Kid", was originally available on a limited run last summer. However, a few more copies have been unearthed in the aA warehouse, so AC decided to exercise his artistic freedom & decorate the once blank sleeves.

The single is now available with a totally unique cover & sounds better than ever, so get your hands on a true rarity before it's deleted. In other Canon news, we hear that the boys have been busy working on some backing tracks for their new tunes. The new material is said to stumble in a bit of a different direction to that of their previous sound. Apparently, all will be revealled at a future aA, once they've got a few rehearsals under their belts. Keep checking back for further news on the "maverick duo".

02.03.03 The self proclaimed glam icon, DAVID NOVAN, will be seeing the whites of peoples eyes at a few local venues over the next few weeks.

His band, NARCISSUS, have recently welcomed a keyboard player into the fold, which will hopefully enable them to take a few strides closer to realising their dream of doing a tour of Baseball Stadiums throughout America. However, for the time being, you can catch them at the following venues.

The Attic, MCR - Monday 10th March aA @ The Black Lion - Saturday 15th March Jabez Clegg, MCR - Wednesday 26th March

Get down & get with it, but don't smudge your eye liner, dude.

01.03.03 THE ZANS (undisputed godfathers of aA) will be making their eagerly anticipated return to aA this saturday. The boys have been busy kicking back over the last few months, however as we all know all good things must come to an end.

Yesterday, we heard from an anonymous source that The Zans have been offered "a six figure sum" for a tour of Japan during the summer. The band's manager, Eve Slag, is thought to be negotiating final terms before dates & venues are finalised over the coming weeks.

Watch this space for an exclusive announcement.

25.02.03 ICONS OF POUNDLAND are in for a busy few weeks. After knocking us dead with a brilliant headlining set at aA last Saturday, they'll be out & about promoting their new self titled album.

The self produced collection of tunes, has got the ditiest sound that we've heard in years & contains 11 new songs, all penned by the self proclaimed (& justifiably so) "maverick genius" Julian Gaskell. We can't emphasise just how great the album is, so just make sure you get your hands on a copy either at future gigs by the band, or at "The Icons of Poundland Mobile Disco" that happens at Big Hands every Tuesday night. The album is on sale for just £1, which has got to be the sale of the century, man.

The next Icons of Poundland gig is happening at Night & Day, on FRIDAY 14TH MARCH 2003. Also on the bill are Indigo Jones, Sonar Yen & Snakes. If you haven't seen them before, get your asses down & check 'em out.

24.03.02 A TRIUMPHANT RETURN FOR aA!!! aA made a triumphant return last Saturday. Our new home witnessed a storming first night, with cracking sets from Silva Surfa, Autokat, Icons of Poundland, Loose Canon, Mark Silverman, Extinguish Her & David Novan. All feedback was positive & even the landlord was happy, as the beered up crowd drank themselves into a stupour. A special "thank you" has to go out to Paul from 3rdKind for doing a brilliant job with the sound all night.

We'll be back for more on SATURDAY 8TH MARCH 2003, with full on sets from Lunar Camels (Leeds), Ist (London), The Zans, Frame of mind, Loose Canon & Silva Surfa (all Manchester), as well as acoustic sets from a couple of guest performers.

It looks like it's gonna be a totally storming night, so get yer asses down for another riot. Keep checking back to the web site for further aA related news.

16.02.03 Matt Hill, friend to aA & all round top bloke, received a great review of his brilliant "My Dark Places" e.p. in this months "Uncut". Although this is obviously great news & thoroughly deserved, unfortunately the e.p. in question has now sold out!!! Nevertheless, the review has generated more interest in Matt, which is perfect timing, given that he's heading out on a 10 date tour with "the fantastically good" Chris Mills during April. Matt's on holiday at the minute, but will resume the increasingly mamouth task of recording his debut album when he gets back & is hoping that it will be released in the near future.
