And drive 'The Driver' does, starting out outside the same Manchester unsigned night that (we'll stop mentioning it soon) also spawned the Alps and The Longcut and tearing across the city at night, chanting a p*ssed-up-zen-like mantra ("To learn, to live, to love" as it happens) as it explores the great unknown in search of adventure with just a few Tubeway Army and Fall records for company. Addictive and sexy, despite sounding like it was recorded in a dustbin".

21.12.04 Seasons Greetings from the good people of aA. Thanks to everyone who came down to the rather messy xmaAs bash last friday and enjoyed sets from Loose Canon, Autokat, The Exports, Second Floor and Pierre Hall. In other holiday news, its Northen Ambition's Christmas Party tonight (Tuesday) at Night & Day and The Exports (9pm) have been added to the already big name bill (Young Will and DNA are manning the decks). Also, rumours of a rather good NYE shindig going down.. hmm wonder where that could be? Put 2 and 2 together, or should that be 10 and 2..?
13.12.04 Warming up for this Friday's XmaAs Party and fresh from a weekend away recording in Cornwall, Loose Canon play Sheffield this Tuesday with new aA buddies the Harrisons. Its at Classic Rock Bar, Ecclesall Rd (S11 8JB) and its worth getting down there from 8;30pm. As if you need reminding Loose Canon top an aAllstar bill this Friday at the Gardens Hotel for what should be a party and a half - its gonna take the form of an old skool aA we think and to quote Raymond Ray "have a Live Aid feel to it". Nice one.
07.12.04 Emotional warlord, full time scenster and ceiling crawling pioneer Pierre Hall is on the radio tonight, so tune in. Here's a personal message from the man himself:

06.12.04 Many thanks to Autokat, Stuffy & The Fuses & The Forest for making last Saturday's aA a great one. Crowd surfing, singers audience rushing, Soft Priest electisism - it's why we all love it...
28.11.04 Akoustik Anarkhy is back at The Garden's Hotel, Mcr this Saturday night (4th Dec), where the night will be headlined by our favourite sons AUTOKAT. The boys have been hard at work recording of late and, if we're all lucky, they should finally have something to unleash during the early part of next year.
Also on the bill are local upstarts THE FOREST (fresh from a blinding set a Blowout the other week) & southern popsters STUFFY & THE FUSES who feature members of GRAHAM COXON'S solo touring band. THE SOFT PRIEST will again be providing the night's typically uncomfortable soundtrack & we've been tipped off that there may be an exclusive playback of tunes from the forthcoming debut e.p. by THE YACHT CLUB entitled "YC001", scheduled for release on Akoustik Anarkhy Recordings during January 2005.
Doors open around 8ish, with the first band hitting the stage just after 9 & it's £4 on the door (if that's not a bargain, we wanna know what is). This one's gonna get messy.....guaranteed
24.11.04 Loose Canon & Autokat are both in action this week at the Night & Day Cafe. Wednesday (23rd) night sees Loose Canon join the Little Flames and Sons & Daughter for club night Wired. On Friday its Silva Surfa and Autokat's turn at Club Fandango. It was another thriller at the weekend with unprecedented partying going down on both nites. The Canon would like to thank all those who came down and danced to them at Blowout - an exceptional nite with The Forest, The Maybes? and the unstoppable The Longcut sparking scenes of pure pandamonia. The carnage contined on Saturday at aA - big ups to Nick Ainsworth & The Former Bullies, The Second Floor and Harrisons for providing a night of high quality musical entertainment. Also shout outs to Danny for the afters, Fury for the sound, Soft Priest for twisting our minds and see you down the front, on the floor or stuck to the ceiling at the next one... December 4th. Yeah!
19.11.04 Hold on to your hats everyone, strap yourselves in and cling on tight - it's gonna be one hell of weekend! Tonight sees Loose Canon join The Longcut, The Maybes? and The Forest at Blowout for what must be one of the line ups of the year. Then, Saturday night at The Gardens Hotel - three acts make thier aA debuts, Nick Ainsworth & The Former Bullies, The Second Floor and Harrisons are all up for the party which starts at 8pm and shall be soundtracked by non other than star deejay the Soft Preist. In other news, the new Loose Canon single "Cruising on the 86" is currently being mixed & should be hitting the shops during early February 2005. As with previous singles "Out to lunch" & "What comes next?", it will only be available on 7" vinyl. We've heard a roung mix of the tune & it sounds absolutely mega, so it'll be worth the wait.
Loose Canon will also be supporting Sons & Daughters at Night & Day on Wednesday 24th November. The Canon are on at 9pm & it's £7.50 on the door.
04.11.04 Brighton will again be the scene for some typically aA-type shenanigans next week. The Longcut will be rolling into town as part of the national tour to plug their forthcoming debut release on Deltasonic. Support on the night comes from aA's favourite daydream believers Sam & Me as well as The Brown Corduroy Express. To ensure that it's a proper aA shindig, we're sending down our own party guru Young Will, who will be doing the business on the wheels of steel. It's all happening on WEDNESDAY 10TH NOVEMBER upstairs at POLAR CENTRAL (formerly The Lift) on Queens Road, Brighton. Doors open at 7.30pm & it's £4.00 in. There's an 11pm curfew, but we've been reliably informed that the party will continue somewhere else long in to the night.

27.10.04 Phew! It's been a busy few weeks here at aA HQ. The Paris trip was storming - 20 Manc chancers and 200 Parisians all up for a party til 6am - a sight to behold as everyone grooved, rushed the stage and basically went mental to Loose Canon, Autokat & DJs Lego and The Soft Priest. Now back in Manchester we've got a few other little tricks up our sleeve. Rumours have been circulating about the aA 5th Birthday - unfortunatley due to issues with the top secret venue we want to use, its gonna have to be put back til a more suitable time. But fear not, the next Akoustik Anarkhy nite is on Saturday 20th November and its a line up of fresh new faces - The Harrisons (who!? what? where did they come from?) and The Second Floor with another act to be confirmed, are all up for making their aA debuts at the Gardens Hotel. In other news, try and get hold of a copy of the brand new Nine Black Alps 7" - theres a "special thanks to akoustik anarkhy" on the sleeve notes - which is a good a reason as any to get it. At the same time you maybe lucky enough to get hold of the latest Loose Canon single, if not try ebay or drop us a line here. Rock on.

21.09.04 'We've been having fun all summer long' and this weekend was no exception. Absolute bedlam down the Gardens Hotel on Saturday and Sunday nite for two sold out shows. The Exports, Sam & Me and Loose Canon got everyone grooving on the first night, with Pierre Hall, Autokat and The Longcut providing us all with ample second aA helpings on the Sun. Stage invasions, mosh pits and the latest aA phenomena 'ceiling crawling' brought smiles to everyones faces in attendance and wasn't the music good!? Special shout outs to Danny, Paul Fury and the Soft Priest. Check this week's NME for a review of some party that apparently went off a couple of weeks ago. Also the next aA at the Gardens is on Oct 2nd with The Maybes?, Loose Canon and Red Light. But before all that, this Saturday at Oldham Castle will see the mighty Loose Canon take to the stage at 10;30pm, would be great if a few of us made the trip across. Anyone from the Landan vacinity checking this page - Sam & Me play Friday at the ULU and on the Saturday - The Exports look set to rock The Water Rats on stage 8pm. Check it.

06.09.04 The Save Oak Road party is taking place this Saturday 11th of September - it has a pretty amazing line up that will be updated on the message board but click here to check out Young Will's amazing flyer! See you there...
26.08.04 Loose Canon have a new single 'What Comes Next? / Take These Eyes' out offically on September 6th on 7" vinyl. Those of you keeping tracks will know it won The Independent's 'Single Of The Week' and been getting various other write ups which we'll provide links and choice quotes from soon. There are a few white sleeved promo vinyls in Rough Trade, Sister Ray in London and Piccadilly Records, Mcr if you just can't wait that long to get your greasy mits on it. We've got lots to tell you but last nites Sam & Me gig with the Lonepigeon has caught us all a bit of guard and we're feeling the effects today. Oh ah, thats it.... our In The City lineup is confirmed and its shit hot. Full announcement soon but the
basics of it is: "Anarkhy In The City 4... Return To The Gardens" - Loose Canon, Sam & Me, The Exports, Pierre Hall, Autokat and The Longcut spread over the nights of Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th September - should be good. Rumours also of a pre ITC house party (Sat 11th Sept??) and the Paris trip is on - Friday 15th October will see aA on the continent..
14.08.04 Jesus Sweet Baby! A party weekend of gigantic status smacked us all in the face, whilst at the same time putting a smile upon it as proceedings span out of control over the 48 hour mark and sprawled across various Manchester hot spots. Events kicked off with Bec's 18th bash at the Attic on Friday that saw Sam & Me warm up for a jubilant Loose Canon set that ended in a 20 minute version of 'Radiate', a mass stage invasion and a disco followed. People continued to dance round Oak Road ‘til sunrise. Following Saturday's big game and rematch from Brighton (Loose Canon 9 - 10 Sam&Me&Co) at Shakermaker Stadium, Fog Lane, it was all down to Northern Ambition's do at the Britons for a particular glowing S&M performance. From then on it was all round the Longcut’s for a cracking house party, sets from the fine hosts, Little Flames and the Alps, proceeded an early morning bombastic Loose Canon gig that got everyone groovin'. Needless to say it wasn't an early nite. Right then, give us a chance to get our breath back and there will be news of the new 'Canon single (out very soon) and whatever else we have up our sleeves, later in the week.
09.08.04 'Oh we de like to be beside the seaside'. In fact we loved it so much we were all sad to leave Brighton on Sunday evening. A weekend of fun> in the sun, surfin (honestly) and beach related activites were followed by an absolute blinding gig on the Saturday nite- which saw a scaringly good Loose Canon, Jack Cooper instigate some kind of hippy freakout, a shimmering Sam & Me and carnage inducing Autokat perfomance. Thanks to a great crowd for helping with the party atmosphere, Curly the promoter and Amra & her dear mother for putting up about 20 of us in their flat. The fun and games continue this Friday (13th), with Bec from Loose Canon's 18th Birthday Party @ the Attic, Oxford Rd. The 'Canon will be performing, plus various other special guests. Its going to be FREE too. More details to follow soon...
03.08.04 Brighton (will) Rock this weekend with the arrival of Loose Canon, Autokat, Sam & Me, Jack Cooper plus Lego & Will on the decks - all happening at The Lift in Brighton click here for more details. If you want a lift down click here and there may be a space for you...se you on the beach!
27.07.04We're afraid to announce all aA related activities this upcoming weekend have to remain top secret, a festivel with aA acts on will be taking place up in the hills over the weekend but due to security reasons the location has to remain disclosed. Fear not tho, the forthcoming weeks are filled with aA antics - Oak Road's PIERRE HALL is on at Night & Day (Aug 2nd), there's SEASIDE ANARKHY in Brighton (Aug 7th), with LOOSE CANON and SAM & ME playing Club Indigo on Friday Aug 13th - all this after 'Exportmania' hit Blowout full in the face on Saturday sparking scenes of mass hysteria that led large sections of the audience to table dance - a first if our memory serves us correctly... rock on!
22.07.04 We've all just about caught our breath back after JC's single launch, which included a stunning Sam&Me performance and post show party antics that hijacked everyones Sunday and pretty much wrote of the week for those involved. This weekend see's Oak Road's very own THE EXPORTS play BLOWOUT on Saturday - come down and show your appreciation for all the parties they've provided you - there's some mad Japanese punk act on too, which can only be a good thing. It's at the Bierkeller and The Exports are opening the nite. In other news, aA royalty Silva Surfa is tying the knot on Saturday - so hats off and best wishes from everyone, everywhere and we hope the sun shines for you. Before all that Mr Brian Wilson rolls into town on Thursday, we'll be down the front - smiling. Also, start planning your route down to Brighton, Sat August 7th - there are already rumours circulating from the southern end that it's gonna get out of hand....
15.07.04 Sunday night sees Blackpool's Jack Cooper (star DJ of the "aA Social" last Friday) officially launching his "Turn the light off" e.p. with a special show at Matt & Phreds, Oldham Street, Manchester. The show will be extra special given that aA's very own Sam & Me will be supporting, while Badly Drawn Boy is rumoured to be dusting down his vinyl for a spell behind the wheels of steel. Both Jack Cooper and Sam & Me will be appearing at "Seaside Anarkhy 2" in Brighton next month, along with the mighty Autokat & aA royalty Loose Canon. Super-dupa-dupa, with an extra dupa on top.
12.07.04 A rather civilised evening of pleasant chat and decent music was enjoyed by all who attended the " aA Social " @ FUEL in Withingotn last Friday. DJ DNA's Roses bootleg set proving a particular highlight. We'll be doing more of these in future , keeping 'em low key - a sort of aA Gentlemen's Club (of course ladies are very welcome too!). Should also mention the Alps quickly who have just come back from their first UK tour and T in the Park show - aA caught a lift in the bus last Thursday for the Nottingham show - big thumbs up and we're pleased to report the lads were on rockin' form. Next date for the aA diary - SATURDAY 7th AUGUST - pack your suitcase coz we're off to BRIGHTON with Loose Canon , Autokat , Sam & Me and Jack Cooper in tow for a bit of " Seaside Anarkhy 2" , full details very soon...
07.07.04 aA SOCIAL takes place this Friday 09th July at Fuel in Withington click here for the flyer. Fetauring too many DJs to list and free entry it should be a good one - staring at 7pm and keep an eye on the message board for line up confirmations. As ever, getting there late will mean you'll be listening in from the pavement...
04.07.04 How much fun did everyone have at the aA Garden Party on Saturday? Sold out, the bands flying and smiles all round (bar the grumpy landlady). Thanks to everyone who came down and danced, fell about and apprecieted great sets from Keyboard Rebel. Loose Canon, a punked up Autokat and The Longcut. Special mentions to the Soft Priest, DJ Lego, Paul Fury for the sound (nice and loud!) and The 'Cut for providing the afters. 20.06.04 Saturday 3rd July - should be the next date for your diary. The Akoustik Anarkhy Garden Party will be taking place at The Rampant Lion on Upper Brook Street (Victoria Park region, just behind Rusholme) - kickin off with guest djs in the beer garden from 7pm and live music indoors from 9pm. We welcome to the party The Longcut, who dont really need much of an introduction - shit hot and on it. Also playing and with a new single out soon Loose Canon, fresh from the studio Autokat and making their aA debut Keyboard Rebel. It's gonna go on til 2am too - phew!
Just would also like to thank aA's favourite soapstar and all round nice guy Dr Truman (aka Nick Bailey) for providing the venue on Wednesday nite for a top party in London which saw The Exports, Sam & Me, Pierre Hall and Lego take on the Strand by storm . Various scraps, scrapes, spots (Nick Faldo was seen nodding his head in agreement with Pierre's set and Natalie from 'Enders (much smaller but fitter in real life) was boogying away to The Exports) plus various other shenagins littered the road trip there and back - all in the name of rock.
10.06.04 London's Calling for a few aA artistes this Wednesday night as Dr Truman hosts a gig at 9 Adam Street, London town centre - just off the Strand. The Exports, Pierre Hall, Sam & Me and DJ Lego are all making the trip down and if you fancy going, email dividedchild@hotmail.com and they'll sort you out with entrance. In other aA news we've got the next 'official' aA - a Garden Party on Saturday July 3rd at The Rampant Lion, Upper Brook Street. We welcome The Longcut to the party (werent they fuckin brilliant at blowout...)
09.06.04 Blowout this Friday has one of the line ups of the year and shouldn't be missed - The Longcut, Nine Black Alps & Sam Hammond all supporting Bloc Party at The Bierkeller in Manchester - click here for more details and see you down the front...
08.06.04 Oak Road What's it all about? Click here for the downloadable PDF that says more than words...
01.06.04 Legendary. That just about sums up Saturday's House Party that saw everyone whose anyone decamping to Oak Rd, Withington to boogy on down til day break. Great sets by The Exports, Nine Black Alps, Loose Canon as well as various other combos that took to the stage, get us all rocking til well into Sunday morning. Special mentions to Lego, the Oak Road massives and Graham Blowout, the latter who managed somehow to sleep slumped on the floor inbetween the fridge and PA speaker - whilst bands were playing! Rock'n'roll. Cheers for everyone who came down and didnt smash up the house, sure we'll be doing it again soon and for now get yourself over to Stockport this Friday for vintage aA with The Zans and support from Loose Canon. We will be and you should all know what that means by now... P A R T Y! Do we need to spell it out for you?
24.05.04 House Party! This Saturday (29th) at the infamous Oak Road residence in Withington. aA Bands, djs and a jolly good time is to be had by all. Unsure of the location - drop us an email here. Everyone's welcome, aslong as you aint a dick. But before all that, this Thursday aA faves SAM & ME are dropping into town for a gig at Night & Day - make sure you are there, we'll put up the full details soon. Also check manchestermusic.co.uk and angryape.com for top reviews of our latest promo disc 'Commuity Service'. MM gave it 5 out of 5 and angryape 8/10 also commenting "a genuinely exciting and refreshing group of artists begging for mainstream attention. A sign that things aren't quite right with the country's choice of popular music." Who are we to disagree with that? See this months ID magazine and the new mcr based Rant mag for bits on aA too. Party on...
24.05.04 Sam & Me are bringing their magic & love to the masses this week. The duo (good guys & very good friends to aA) are playing at Hanbury Ballrooms, Brighton on Tuesday; The Hope & Anchor, Isligton, London on Wednesday & Night & Day, Manchester on Thursday. If you're nice to them, they'll be very nice to you.
24.05.04 Loose Canon have promised us a few new tunes when they support THE ZANS at The Bakers Vaults, Market Square, Stockport on FRIDAY 4TH JUNE. The headliners (proper old skool aA royalty) will be playing two sets, one with the original 70's 3 piece line up & another with the "reformed" (ho ho!) line up. THE ZANS only do a handful of gigs a year, so get your fat arses off your sofas & check out the Godfather's of aA. Feel free to give the venue a call on 0161 4777312 for tips on bread making & the line. All rise!
17.05.04 When's the next aA? Good question - we don't know either but we're not resting on laurels - there's music being recorded, records planned, venues scouted, parties considered...click back here for details VERY SOON!
15.05.04 Autokat are playing the High Voltage night on Saturday, on early on 8:45pm, so get down at 8:30 - we will be. It's at Bar Karumba by the swimming baths on Oxford Rd. It's free in and theres pints for £1.30! Result. It's also a double birthday celebration with aA founder AC and all round good guy Raymond Ray both sharing their special day together. Ah! See you there..
10.05.04 "Beyond Entertainment!" was the verdict of one satisfied customer after attending last Friday's aA out of towner in Preston. Nine Black Alps, Autokat and Loose Canon all rocked the Adelphi in a an event that look sets to be one of the parties/musical highlights of the year. Great scenes of hysteria met the Canon's finale of 'Radiate' which ended in a mass stage invasion and a 20 minute version that had everyone (and we mean everyone!) dancing, smiling and singing - a genuinelly beautiful moment. The magical mystery tour of a night out saw about 40 believers from Manc then pile on a coach home and into Oak Road for fun and games til the sun came up.
Thanks to Murph, Soft Priest, Russ, Gordon @ Action Records and a special mention to sound man Paul (in both senses of the word). We had just about got our heads together on Saturday evening only to be totally tripped out by seeing our Paul accompanying Olympic medalist Roger Black on guitar on 'Celebrity Stars In You Eyes'! aA goes prime time TV. Hold tight for news on the next aA in Mcr and a new Loose Canon single release. For now though, be content in the knowledge Autokat play High Voltage this Saturday - full details to come. But we'll leave you with the.observa's morning after analysis of Fridays events: "It would be hard to have more fun than last night." Fear not though, we're gonna give it a good go! Onwards...
06.05.04 Everbody getting the bus to Preston on Friday we are meeting at 7pm at the Golden Lion pub car park. It's on the Wilmslow Rd, just past Withington village by Christies Hospital and at the end of Oak Road. Be there on time with a crisp tenner and a 50 pence piece - this will be the fare for the bus and to get you into the gig - bargain. Will be returning about 1ish from Preston, come fully loaded and booze for a return journey and afters in Oak. If you have any mates who havent confirmed bring them along and we should be able to get them on board. Let's get this show on the road..
27.04.04 aA Express will be heading to Preston next Friday for a showndown between Loose Canon, Autokat, Purple Heron & The Soft Priest at the Adelphi - to travel onboard call Russ on 07932 161373 - he's sorting out all the arrangements and will whisk you back to Manchester when all's said and done. Whether or not Will is gonna be on board for the return is open to debate. click here
21.04.04 Preston aA now ready to go - Loose Canon, Autokat, Purple Heron (?) & The Soft Priest at the Adelphi on Flyde Street, Preston on Friday May 07th 2004. It's £4 on the door and runs 9pm - 1am. In association with sound suppliers Action Records. They'll be a bus from Manchester and if you wanna book a space click here - and don't worry, Will won't be driving...
17.04.04 R.I.P the Garden’s Hotel. It’s looking increasingly likely there will be no more aA’s at the Garden’s Hotel. The last seminal shindig (as reviewed in this week’s NME) ‘got a little out of control’ according to hotel management. It just leaves us to thank all the staff there for being such good sports and we’re sorry to be leaving. In similar bad news the Nine Black Alps gig at Blowout on Friday, spelt the end of the nite in that carnation at the Irish Centre. Cheers chaps for some top parties. But before we all get too upset, fear not, the show must go on! The next aA is gonna be out of town... PRESTON, to be exact. FRIDAY 7th MAY at The Adelphi starring LOOSE CANON, AUTOKAT and very 'special' guests PURPLE HERON, with the SOFT PRIEST on DJing duty. Please drop us an email if interesed in going as we got people who wanna run a coach but need to know numbers, more info to follow. Get involved.
08.04.04 If anyone is thinking about taking the weekend off, you can forget it! Easter weekend is awash with loads of good reasons to party. This Friday at Night & Day we have aA's favourite band of all time - AUTOKAT playing, they will be on just after 10 and if that wasn't enough LOOSE CANON have just been draughted in as last minute headliners, they will hit stage after the kat about 11:30pm - bonus. Saturday see's the Northern Ambition boys putting a do on at the Briton's showcasing an erray of singer/songwriter talent - Nathan Burton, Sam Hammond and Jack Cooper, following this the kids at Blowout are bigging up 'Inner City Blues' at the Arch Bar, so maybe worth checking out. This Sunday isn't the time for rest, it's time to get down to Big Hands for an all dayer starring aA's very own PIERRE HALL and THE EXPORTS amongst others. This one's for charitee mate so pull your finger out, kickin off from 7pm. If you can't wait for Friday for all this fun to start you are lucky that aA DJ Lego's side project nite 'It's A Good Thing' will provide the perfect appetiser on Thursday at Bar 480, Chorlton - phew! And Monday? Hospital by the sound of things to come!
04.04.04 Another aA Lost Weekend followed Friday's ram-packed gig at the Brtion's. Top one for everyone who came and saw great sets from Jack Cooper, John Stammers and the simply bonkers / brilliant Thomas Truax. Stage invasions, street gigs and Oak Rd shenagins all ensued. But it didn't end there as aA continued over the next few days in taking on 3 cities, both cup semi finals and a trip to Liverpool to catch the Nine Black Alps at the Bandwagon. After a quick hello with last week aA stars The Maybes? it was back across to Manc for a 2am secret acoustic slot from Noel Loose Canon at the Garter. And after all this there was still time for a Sunday late nite rendezouz with an ex-Eastender at Piccadilly Station - bizaree. Meanwhile Autokat were holed up in the studio getting down to business, which brings us on nicely to the next gig of anyworth, the kat will play Night & Day on Friday (9th), get there for 10 - we will be.
29.03.04 What more can we say about Saturday nite's sold out aA? Apart from thank you to all the bands, people and staff for helping make it one of the parties of the year. Where the hell do we go from there you maybe thinking? I tell you where... Britons Protection this Friday (2nd April) and do it all over again! This time with New York City anti-folk hero THOMAS TRUAX as he makes a welcome return to aA. Joined by Garden Stick's mega talented JOHN STAMMERS and power pop crusader and aA fave JACK COOPER. Doors will be sharp 8pm, its £4 and who the hell knows what's gonna happen!?
24.03.04 The Maybes?, Nine Black Alps, Loose Canon & The Soft Priest This Saturday at Piccadilly Gardens Hotel. £4 and you will really have to get there early if you want to get in - kick off's 8pm - click here for more info
22.03.04 Autokat are currently locked away in Spirit Studios in Manchester, where they're recording their new e.p. We've been given a provisional track listing for the forthcoming release & it looks like it's gonna be a case of hits all the way. More details will be revealed as the sessions continue, but we've got a Summer release planned for the e.p. with some live dates to coincide with it.
21.03.04 Oldham saw the best of aA at the weekend, with LOOSE CANON & NINE BLACK ALPS knocking out brilliant sets at "Electric Circus" at The Castle. There were no big suprises in either band's sets, but it was a good warm up for this weekends's main event at The Garden's Hotel & it was a decent enough excuse to have a bit of a party. Things got a bit out of hand later on back in Withington in the early hours of Sunday morning, but the less said about that the better. Smash it up!!!
16.03.04 The aA party moves up the road to Oldham this Saturday, where LOOSE CANON & NINE BLACK ALPS will be shaking the room at "ELECTRIC CIRCUS" @ The Castle, Union St as a low key warm up for the mother of all aA's on the 27th. Also on the bill this Saturday are VIVA STEREO & SONAR YEN, who have recently released their debut album. The critically acclaimed "Slow Picture" is available now through
Soviet Union Records (really those nice chaps at www.manchestermusic.co.uk in diguise) & is well worth picking up. Doors open at 8pm & it's gonna be rammed, so get there early if you wanna join the circus.
08.03.04 The Maybes? Nine Black Alps & aA hosts Loose Canon will play the Piccadilly Gardens Hotel at aA number...shit we've lost count - you know it's good! Also joining them will be aA star and new father THE SOFT PRIEST with his amazing mobile confessional. Entry is £4 and make sure you get there early - 8pm it starts. The essential info? All on Saturday 27th March 2004 - click here for more
04.03.04 Arriving home late last nite, dazed and confused, aA reps took on London in a 24 hour smash up that saw them take in a Sam & Me and Alfie doubleheader at the Metro Club, Oxford Street. But it wasn't just all fun and games as the lads had a string of appoinments to attend. All we can reveal at the moment though, is watch this space for something special aA related going down in the capital soon (ish). Till then hold tight for the next Manchester party, details to be announced any day now!
04.03.04 It's a Good Thing starts this Thursday at Bar Four Eighty, Wilbraham Rd, Chorlton. Deejays Lego & Special Ed play nusoul, hip hop, reggae etc. between 8pm and 12am and it's free to get in. Blowout also returns this Friday at Chorlton Irish Club - check the site out for more details. It's not all about the suburbs though - details of the next aA will eb announced soon!
02.03.04 Loose Canon are heading back in to the studio this weekend to record a few tracks which should result in a new double 'a' side single being released on aA recordings during the summer. The band are on phenomenal form at the minute, so expectations are high.
Band members are currently fighting amongst themselves about which tunes are to be recorded. Our money is on "Take these eyes" being in with a shout, although it faces stiff competition from "Are there better feelings than this?", "What comes next?" & "Burst of insanity". Feel free to post your own tips on the message board.
01.03.04 Thomas Truax will be leaving his native New York for a tour of the UK during March & April. As ever, we'll be proudly presenting the Manchester date, so prepare to have your mind blown to pieces! Full details will be announced shortly, so check back here in a couple of days. Alternatively, you can check the Thomas Truax web site to catch up on what's been happening in Wowtown since his last visit. We strongly recommend that you check the picture of the "Deep Sisters" in his gallery.....freaky shit, man!!!
23.02.04 The Exports play their first official gig of the year at NIGHT & DAY, Oldham St, MCR this Saturday night (28th Feb). There are some other bands on as well, but we're not sure who or when. All we know is that The Exports are on last, so we advise you to get there around 10.30pm or so. No doubt there will be some sort of after-show madness happening in the Oak Road area of Withington well into the early hours of Sunday morning, so come prepared.
20.02.04 aA House Party stars the Nine Black Alps are in action tonight at the Retro Bar, Central Manchester. Band on about 10ish but we recommend get down there earlier as it should be pretty lively. Head over to Blowout later to catch The Maybes and if they're still standing at this point aA crew behind the decks. Party on!
17.2.04 Gig Cancelled: Loose Canon's 42nd Street gig tomorrow night has been cancelled - not much else to say - keep checking back here for more aA gig details very soon! Some rumors about a Autokat / Fremen gig at the Bierkeller soon but we'll let you know on that!
17.02.04 Loose Canon are back in action at 42nd Street this Wednesday night. This follows on from their unannounced appearance at "LOVE AnaRKhY" last Friday & their brilliant set at the Oak Road party on Saturday night. Anyone who has seen the band lately will know that there's something truly seminal going down between them. We don't know what time they'll be on on Wednesday, but check the message board over the next couple of days for further details. In further Canon related news, the band will be wandering into the studio in the near future to record a couple of tracks for a forthcoming double 'a' single which will appear later in the year. In the meantime, check the "music" section of this site for a cosmic demo version of "Radiate", which is was recorded last summer
16.02.04 The aA crew had one long party over the last weekend. First off, we had "LOVE AnaRKhY" at FUEL in Withington on Friday night, which was jam packed with assorted bohos who were entertained by JACK COOPER, PIERRE HALL and SAM & ME. If that wasn't enough, we had the genius of DJ LEGO partying like it was 1973 on the decks, which kept the evening joyously rolling along until it's eventual conclusion. It was a top night & love was definitely in the air, I can tell ya.
Saturday was the night of the Oak Road party, which will surely go down in history for it's absolute decadence. Not since the days of the Stones' tours of American in the early 70's has such a lot of bad behavior gone down in such a short space of time, but we think that all of the incriminating evidence has been destroyed, so we should all be in the clear! We had bands in the kitchen until the early hours of the morning, which included NINE BLACK ALPS, LOOSE CANON (playing the set of their lives) & THE EXPORTS. Again, DJ LEGO was on hand on the decks, who was clearly partying in a different decade to the previous night. Also, we have to give a big thumbs up to our resident soundman PAUL FLIESHMAN who kept his head down & did a brilliant job on both nights.
There are plenty more parties to come, so keep checking back here in future for further details.
11.02.04 Music from some of Akoustik Anarkhy's favorite acts is now available on this site click here to check it out or use the link abovet. You'll be able to check out live versions of these tracks on Friday with Sam & Me @ Fuel flyer here or possibly some of the other acts at a secret location over this weekend - keep an eye on the messageboard for details...
09.02.04 Autokat play a low key gig on Wednesday 11th February, this week, at 42nd Street in Manchester - not sure what the other details are but we're it won't cost much to get in and they'll probably be a few other acts playing...few more details here but not much!
01.02.04 We Love Anarkhy, you love anarkhy, everyone's Anarkhy lovin' at the moment so it seems right to present LOVE ANARKHY on Valentine's eve Friday 13th February at Withington's intimate FUEL. Featuring Sam & Me (check them supporting Alfie in Brighton the Sunday after), cult hero Pierre Hall & new Twisted Nerve 45 club wunderkid Jack Cooper. With Lego on vinyl duties in between and 'cos it's about love it's FREE! Click here for the flyer and we'll see you there...
Click here for some info on Jack Cooper's Twisted Nerve debut
03.02.04 While the rest of aA were still partying in the early hours of Sunday morning, Soft Priest was helping to deliver his second son Edward Claude down at Stockport Maternity Ward. Edward Claude joins the priests sprightly first son Bill & is destined for a life in his fathers backing band. aA is pleased to say Mrs Priest & said youngster are in good health & after some paternity leave Soft will be back at the party sometime in March.
02.02.04 Massive thanks to Nine Black Alps, Autokat, Loose Canon, Lego, Gardens Hotel, the bar staff and of course the crowd - what a gig on saturday and it's only gonna get better - next stop is the more relaxed 'Love Anarkhy' at Withington's Fuel on Friday 13th Feb - click here for more info.
30.01.04 In advance of tomorrow's gig we've won ManchesterMusic.co.uk's 'Independent Promoter' award, which is nice:
"Akoustik Anarkhy… What can you say. From basement gigs to Hotel receptions, aA have truly earned their catchphrase “Seminal”. With their own label and groundbreaking events, you'll be as likely to see a busker as a NYC punk legend at any of their gigs. An essential breeding ground for new talent and drunkenness. Original and still one of the best."
Read more about it here by clicking here
17.01.04 OK Let's Have It!! We're kicking off 2004 with the sort of party that will have folk talking all year long. We're promising music, mayhem & down right bad behaviour on SATURDAY 31st JANUARY & the location for all of this madness is THE GARDEN'S HOTEL, Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester.
The line up is so good that we're gonna have difficulty topping it next time.
We've got aA pioneers LOOSE CANON strutting their stuff, besides old skool aA sensations AUTOKAT, along with aA's favourite new things the NINE BLACK ALPS (they have to be seen to be believed). If that isn't enough, we're pleased to welcome back DJ LEGO, the undisputed King of black plastic, who will be doing his thing at aA first the first time since the album launch do during May 2003.
It's £4 on the door & the action kicks off at 8pm. In the tradition of aA, this
night will be absolutely legendary, so miss it & you will be kicking yourself.
REMEMBER: GET THERE EARLY OR YOU WON'T GET IN!!!!
